The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was an association of English painters, poets and critics, founded in 1848 in London by John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Holman Hunt.
The Brotherhood lasted as a group constituted scarcely a lustrum, but its influence was felt in the English painting until entering century XX. The term prerrafaelismo is used to characterize the pictorial movement that they represent. It is often associated with the realistic movement that was simultaneously developing in France. The term “pre-Raphaelite” is to be understood as a derivation of “pre-Raphaelite”, and not to apply to the name of the original group of artists.
The pre-Raphaelites rejected the predominant academic art in nineteenth-century England, centerings their criticism on Sir Joshua Reynolds, founder of the Royal Academy of Arts.
From his point of view, the prevailing academic painting only perpetuated the mannerism of Italian painting after Rafael and Michelangelo, with elegant but empty compositions and lacking in sincerity.
For this reason, they advocated a return to the meticulous detailing and luminous coloring of the primitive Italians and Flemish, before Rafael, hence the name of the group, whom they considered more authentic.
In Spanish, the members of the brotherhood are known interchangeably as “pre-Raphaelite” or “pre-Raphaelite”. The movement is often called “pre-Raphaelite”

Jacquard was an apparatus from the 19th century and is named after its inventor, Joseph-Marie Jacquard. It is attached to a loom and uses a punch-card system, which the loom reads like binary code — each card represents a line of the pattern and has holes that allow threads to pass through (or not), changing the colors and slowly creating the jacquard design.
